Special Fringe “The Electronic and the Primitive”

This experimental project is produced by Kodo’s Masayuki Sakamoto. The core of this performance lies in a collaborative innovation between Kodo and Roland, the world’s leading brand in electronic instruments: the trial instrument, “electronic katsugi (sling) daiko”.

Kodo and Roland have been conducting cooperative research since last year. Built on the know-how from having created countless electronic drums and percussion instruments and Kodo’s relentless pursuit of the possibilities of the wadaiko, this collaboration is sure to slice the world open with a new form of musical expression.

The “electronic Katsugi-daiko” lends Masayuki Sakamoto’s skilful drumming a kaleidoscopic expressiveness. Kenta Nakagome’s powerful drumbeat that explodes the outdoor midsummer stage. Yoshie Abe’s singing voice, calming as a cool gust of wind. And returning from last year’s wildly popular performance at the EC Theatre, flamenco dancer Sanshiro. These performances are not to be missed!
