Special Fringe: “Maui Taiko”

“Maui Taiko” from Hawaii was established in 1996, and mainly consisting of Japanese immigrants on Maui Island. This year they will visit Japan for the event “FESTIVAL FUKUSHIMA!” and while they are at it, they will do their EC debut!

In 2012 Maui Taiko travel around the areas affected by the tsunami in Tohoku, doing performances toward evacuees and places where they no longer were able to do Bon Odori. In 2014, a Taiko group from the Fukushima area visited Maui Island and held a concert at the home of Maui Taiko.

In 2015, a project to cooperate with ”Shineha Sendan Taiko “ of Futaba Town in Fukushima started. The local “Futaba Bon-Uta” of Futaba Town was learned and later performed by Maui Taiko at the Bon Dance of Hawaii.

Full of energy, look forward to the sound of the taiko that connects Japan and Hawaii!
