Developed by Roland and Kodo: The “Electric Taiko” has developed even further and will appear during the EC!

Developed jointly by Roland and Kodo, the “Electric Taiko” has evolved even further and will be appearing during the EC 2018! Since its debut at last year’s EC special fringe, the “Electric Taiko” has become wireless and lighter which gives the performer an increased freedom while playing.
This year the “Electric Taiko” will be showcased at the Harbour Market Live ”Kodo Dance Night〜CHAKKA FES〜”. Make sure to not miss this performance where the Kodo members perform with this groundbreaking instrument.

The Mechanism of the “Electric Taiko”
Based on the design and structure of traditional Japanese drums, the “Electric Taiko” was designed by adding Roland’s knowledge and technology of electronic drums. This resulted in a unique instrument that greatly expands the possibilities of expression. You can produce the sound of a traditional Japanese taiko, as well as a wide range of other sounds such as various percussion and electronic sounds. There are sensors sensing vibrations when you hit the drums head, then sends the signal to the tone generator and plays the sound. In addition, there are also sensors built into the “Fuchi”, the outer ring of the drum head, which allows you to play the same way as you would a traditional Japanese drum.
Thanks to Roland’s unique mesh material used as the drum skin, the drum can be played in silence and makes it possible to practice anywhere, at any time!
