Riding on the rhythm of Hachijo Daiko, Chieko will share some of her top secrets from years of playing taiko on stage. You’ll learn how to stand and play taiko wearing a kimono with feminine grace, suppleness, and strength. Come ready to learn new dance steps as well. Male participants are welcome.
Instructor Profile
Chieko Kojima first encountered Japanese folk dancing when she moved to Sado to join Sado no Kuni Ondekoza in 1976. She is noted for her original style of dance in Kodo’s taiko-based performances. Aside from her Kodo performances, Chieko also seeks new encounters through performances in the female song-and-dance trio Hanayui and produces her own expressive solo performances and collaborations in her spirited project Yukiai. Chieko’s vivid portrayal of the goddess Uzume in Tamasaburo Bando’s “Amaterasu” in 2006 illustrated her unique talent.
