B. Osado Natural Giant Cedar Forest Walk

Enjoy a cool, refreshing walk in the forest on the Osado Mountain Range and see the Ishina natural cedar trees, which have been warped by strong winds and snow in the harsh winter season. A local Sado eco tour guide will lead the way.

Notes

The tour will go ahead rain or shine, however, it may be cancelled due to bad hiking conditions.

The Ishina Natural Cedar Tree Footpath is located at an altitude of around 900 m (about 3,000 ft). It can be foggy and rainy even when it is clear at the foot of the mountains. Please bring rain gear that will keep you warm. Elementary school students must be accompanied by an adult. Please inform us in advance if you are bringing children aged 9 or younger.

The Earth Celebration venues are situated in the town of Ogi at the southern tip of the island. The convenient way to get there by public transportation after participating in this tour is to take one of EC Liner Buses. Reservation necessary. Fee 1,000 yen.

Why not participating in “Crested Ibis Conservation Centre and Satoyama Hike” in the afternoon The tour bus will take you to Ogi in time for Shiroyama Concert. Reservation necessary. Fee 3,500 yen.

The photographs of giant cedar trees exhibited at Toyako Sumit in 2008 were taken in Sado’s virgin forest of giant cedar trees. Ishina Natural Cedar Tree Footpath does not go through the forest. The virgin forest trekking and hiking tours are found at http://sado-eco.com.
