About EC Committee
Sado City and Kodo collectively form the core body of the Earth Celebration Committee. For more than 25 years, festival production, venue set up and event management have been overseen by the EC Committee with the help of part-time staff and volunteers from both on and off the island.
In 2008, EC won the “Furusato Event First Prize” presented by the Japan Center for Regional Development. In 2009, the Earth Celebration Committee was awarded the Tiffany Foundation Award for the Preservation of Japanese Traditional Arts and Culture in Contemporary Society. This award was given in recognition of the festival’s efforts to promote friendship, new experiences, and regional traveling by making the most of local resources such as the natural environment and traditional culture.
