Photo Exhibition “Kiyohime on Sado Island” Chieko Kojima × Maiko Miyagawa

Introduction

Chieko Kojima, a distinguished member of taiko performing arts ensemble Kodo, has based her life’s work on the story of Anchin and Kiyohime from the Dojoji Tales. Over the course of a year, she let her own unique Kiyohime explore the four seasons on Sado Island to create a brand new tale in collaboration with photographer Maiko Miyagawa. Kiyohime stands in a freezing blizzard… Reaches out towards faint whispers of nature emerging in spring… Basks in sparkling light refracted from the summer sea… And stirs up the autumn leaves with the resonating beats of her taiko drum. This exhibition depicts a whimsical realm: first captured in photographs, then recreated through graphic design by Rina Aihara.
