Introduction to Sado’s Noh Theatre (for beginners)

Sado is known for its active noh theatre community and many farmers on Sado also are active noh theatre artists. Come experience the art of noh theatre that has been passed down for generations. After rehearsing in a resident’s home, participants will have the chance to set foot on the Daizen Shrine Noh Stage.

Sado City Hall in front of Mano Administration Service Center parking lot

Participants will drive their own cars or rental cars to the program site.

Itinerary

9:30   Meet at Mano Administration Service Center

10:00  Arrive at the rehearsal studio (residence), begin workshop

Introduction to Sado’s noh theatre, rehearse song and dance forms

12:00  Bento lunch

13:00  Afternoon rehearsal

15:00  Travel in individual cars

15:30  Rehearse at Daizen Shrine Noh Stage

16:30  Respond to survey, dismissal

What to bring (Required)

Car or rental car that can be driven by participant, comfortable clothing for movement

Note

Participants should arrive at the meeting location with a car or rental car that they can drive themselves.

Participants must drive themselves to Daizen Shrine Noh Stage

Participants must wear tabi (Japanese traditional socks) for rehearsal. (Tabi will be available to borrow at no cost)

Lunch will be catered bento.
